Abstract:

In this paper we present a detailed kinetic model of a lasing medium and the results calculated using that model for a nuclear-pumped IR laser emitting on the transitions of atomic chlorine in a high-pressure mixture of He-Ne-CCl4. Based on the comparison made between the calculated and experimental results we have established the mechanism of the population inversion for the transitions lasing at 1.59 and 2.45 mm wavelengths. We have also identified the optical conditions for the lasing to occur.
