Abstract:

In this paper we show a possibility of enchancing the antitumor and antimetastatic effect of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in C57BL/6 mice bearing Lewis lung carcinoma due to irradiation with the emission of Cu-laser. The laser radiation increases superoxidismutase (SOD) activity in the blood plasma, the decrease of which is observed at tumor growth and cytostatic therapy. The SOD activity in a tumor decreases, on the contrary, at cytostatic and laser therapy as compared to that in untreated mice. The influence of laser irradiation on the antioxidant enzymes activity is likely to be one of the mechanisms responsible for the laser radiation ability to control the efficiency of cytostatic therapy.
