Abstract:

We present a statistical model of the total power of the background over the spectral range from 3.55 to 3.93 mkm developed for use in problems on detecting from space the places of forest fire ignition under conditions of broken clouds during day and night. Two types of approximations for the probability density of background power: the Laguerre polynomials and Pearson curves are considered. Based on the closed numerical experiment within the Neumann-Pearson criterion the probabilities of fire detection are found. The results obtained show the principle possibility of early fire detection from the space under conditions of broken clouds.
