Abstract:

Linear and nonlinear absorption of laser radiation at molecular vibrational transitions with dense rotational spectral structure typical for bent triatomic atmospheric molecules have been considered. In quasistationary approximation of incoherent rate equations for populations of energy levels the influence of following factors on opti-cal excitation probability has been studied: frequency instability of radiation, spectral width of radiation, random rotational structure of absorption band, shape of absorp-tion lines. Criteria of linear and nonlinear collective absorption of radiation in a band have been formulated. Conditions of square root dependence of excitation probability upon laser intensity have been determined.
