Abstract:

An oscillating wavelength dependence is obtained in the IR for the extinction coefficient a of a system of oriented ice plates. Each curve α(λ) has a fine structure and certain specific features, which may be used to estimate the average size of the ice plates. We show that it is only the oriented ice plates which may cause a noticeable wavelength dependence of the extinction coefficient of a crystalline cloud.
