Abstract:

In this paper we discuss few-parameter models proposed for estimation of cross section of extinction, scattering, and absorption of light by atmospheric aerosol. Estimation of the accuracy of approximate formulas are presented for the case of polydisperse ensembles of spherical particles with quasi-Gaussian and gamma size distributions as well as for ensembles of randomly oriented spheroids with the refractive index m_r = 1.5 + i0.02 .
