Abstract:

The structure functions of optical wave phase fluctuations in a lenticular medium with turbulent fluctuations of atmospheric refractive index were studied using the geometrical optics method. Optical source image shift in the aberration lenticular medium was also investigated. In the case of the defocusing medium whose refractive index differs but slightly from the parabolic profile, approximate solutions were derived for the structure functions of the optical wave phase fluctuations and the variance of the source image centroid fluctuations based on an analytical solution for a geometric optics ray. The numerical and analytical solutions were compared to yield the validity range of the aberration-free and small-aberration approximations for describing the phase fluctuations of the optical wave propagating through the aberration lenticular medium. The calculations showed a dramatic effect of the medium aberrations on the optical beam fluctuation characteristics.
