Abstract:

Some peculiarities in determination of the arrival angles of sound wave caused by regular inhomogeneity of the atmosphere and sound source movement are analyzed in the paper within the framework of geometrical acoustics. The relationship is derived, which describes the relation of the arrival angle to the phase difference of signals recorded with a direction finder. In doing this there were derived in the paper analytical expressions for the phase difference as a function of temperature and wind velocity profiles. These analytical relations are suggested for developing the remote sensing techniques applicable to studies of the ground atmospheric layer.
