Abstract:

It is shown that the glow discharge parameters depend to a large extent on the decay rate of the voltage U in the discharge gap d. Thus, the instantaneous value of the parameter η (the ratio of beam current to the total discharge current) can exceed the unity. In discharges interpreted as the photoemission ones, the parameter is identified with the energy efficiency of the electron beam formation. Obviously, the instantaneous value of η can not characterize the efficiency. It is also shown that the opposite field affects not only on the parameter η, but also on other characteristics of the pulse discharge.
