Сделан обзор полученных за последние годы данных о физических свойствах и химическом составе атмосферного аэрозоля в контексте исследований аэрозоля как климатообразующего компонента атмосферы. Особое внимание уделено обсуждению результатов полевого наблюдательного эксперимента по изучению свойств аэрозоля (АСЕ). Кратко проанализированы основные процессы, ответственные за образование атмосферного аэрозоля. Подведены итоги новых усилий по обоснованию моделей атмосферного аэрозоля. Охарактеризованы основы численного моделирования с целью воспроизведения пространственно-временной изменчивости трехмерных полей счетной концентрации и микроструктуры аэрозоля.
