Abstract:

We present the experimental results on studying characteristics of high-power radiation of a continuous-wave CO2 laser propagated along near-ground atmospheric paths. The results obtained are analyzed with the allowance made for thermal defocusing, phase distortions of radiation at the laser output and in the beam formation system, diffraction, and regular divergence. The influence of the "input" section on the beam divergence is analyzed, and some methods to decrease this influence are discussed.
