Abstract:

The paper describes some results of lidar observations obtained at the Institute of Atmospheric Optics SB RAS in January-March 1996-2000. We have considered the role of geophysical processes, accompanying the magnitospheric perturbations, in the formation of layers with increased values of the aerosol scattering in the altitude range from 35 to 50 km. Basic characteristics of the atmosphere at 50 km altitude are considered as well as the role of water vapor and conditions of condensation in the stratopause. A mechanism is discussed accelerating the condensation due to supplementary ionization occurring under conditions of increased magnetic activity.
