Abstract:
The normalized variance (σ-2) of the intensity fluctuations of a divergent laser beam in the ground atmosphere in snowfalls was measured with a photodetector shifted off the beam optical axis. It is shown that -2 increases under these conditions because of scattering by snowflakes.
