Abstract:

The effect of relative humidity on infrared radiation absorption by submicron aerosol is examined. It is shown that for a fixed absorber content the major factor accounting for increased absorption is the decrease of the real part of the complex refractive index for the submicron aerosol fraction as the humidity rises. Estimated absorption coefficients for a 8-12mm spectral range are reported.
