Abstract:

A concept of the image resolution imposed by a scattering medium is introduced. The expressions relating the cross-radiance characteristics, the properties of the object under observation, the scattering medium and optical system parameters are derived and the limiting spatial resolution is calculated. Physical mechanisms responsible for the t-effect and the conditions for its occurence are discussed.
