Abstract:

The MMRCSU infrared channel flown on the "Kosmos-1689" satellite was tested. Sea surface temperatures were obtained from the observed data on the outgoing radiation in the 10,4-12,6mm spectral region, using a special retrieval algorithm for calculating the IR radiative characteristics of the atmosphere-underlying surface system. The satellite-derived sea surface temperatures are shown to agree within 1°C with the relevant routine ship reports.
