Experimental data on the variance and probability density function (PDF) of strong optical irradiance scintillations in turbulent atmosphere are analyzed. It is shown, that the log-normal PDF model describes the law of strong irradiance scintillations distributions better than K-PDF model in а wide variation range of the parameter β2,0, characterizing turbulent propagation conditions.
