Abstract:

Numerical study of backscattered and depolarized light from hexagonal ice crystals has been made. A composite ray-tracing code has been developed to simulate backscattered and depolarized light from hexagonal particles. The numerical study of dependences of microphysical backscattering characteristics for case of chaotic orientation and various cases of orientation in the fixed range has been made. The code uses the ray-tracing technique to solve the field on the ice crystal surface, which is then transformed to the far wave field on the basis of the electromagnetic equivalence theorem.
