Abstract:
The history of development and ground and flight tests of the first Russian space lidar BALKAN is described. Some experimental results are presented obtained when sounding clouds and underlying surface from the Mir space station. Comparison is made between the first space lidars LITE, BALKAN, and ALISSA.
