Abstract:

The color tracks of anomalously high modulation of light, scattered by oscillating raindrops, were recorded under field conditions. Photo registration of color trajectories of falling raindrops at scattering angles near first order rainbow when lighting up from below by white stable light allows us to derive the main drop parameters: modulation frequency, volume, average form, oscillation mode, and oscillation amplitude of each registered droplet. A different form of double and triple tracks (multitracks), color modulation of which depends on oscillation mode composition, where registered and described. Decoding of multitrack modulation form probably allows us to get important information about so complicated and little-studied process as drop deformations and oscillation structure of falling raindrops. These data are of great importance for problems of propogation of electromagnetic waves in atmosphere and for interpretation of polarization measurements in radar meteorology.
