Abstract:

Under our assumptions, the random errors in estimation of time delay between the information signals with quadratic interpolation of maxima of generalized cross-correlation functions (the basic cross-correlation function, smoothed coherence transform, the phase transform (PHAT) and maximum-likelihood (ML) weighing) have been analyzed. The effect of various signals and system parameters on the studied response was estimated. In general, the largest random errors occur when using PHAT, the smallest for the ML-weighting. It is shown that under proper use of modified frequency weighting functions they can be significantly reduced.
