Abstract:

Variations of OI 630 and OI 557.7 nm airglow intensities in the nocturn mid-latitude thermosphere during the geomagnetic storm of Desember 14-15, 2006 are under consideration. The analysis is based on optical, digisonde and GPS observations obtained for Eastern Siberia (52°N, 103°E). It has been found that there were close in amplitude and shape simultaneous disturbances of variations of the emissions under study during this storm. At the same, time the variations of OI 630 and OI 557.7 nm airglow intensities correlated with the total electron content. It has been suggested that in this case the 557.7 nm emission disturbances might have resulted from the O2+ dissociative recombination reaction and ionospheric F-layer characteristic variations. To interpret the ratio of the observed 557.7 and 630 nm disturbed emission intensities, we have simulated their height profiles.
