Abstract:

The turbulent fluctuations of gas density, developing in flows with spatial inhomogeneity of mean internal energy, are considered. Two-component model of density structure function with large-scale anisotropic component and small-scale isotropic one is proposed. In inertial subrange, both components obey power-law distance dependence. Experiments of laser beam propagation through hot air flow show the presence of anisotropic refraction index fluctuations within the flow. The peculiarities of intensity fluctuation spectra are in a good agreement with the density structure function of the model proposed.
