Abstract:

Computing elements of the Mie scattering algorithm are considered. In particular, specific details of calculating logarithmic derivatives of the Ricatti-Bessel complex-argument functions using the downward recursion and continued fraction methods to obtain the initial value are discussed. Computation of the Ricatti-Bessel real-argument functions by the Miller procedure is also examined. Modified recursions for angular functions are presented. The number of terms in the complex Mie series to be taken into account in the scattering function calculations is derived. The results of the test computations are reported.
